Cape Horn

At the end of the world, the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans meet in a place where the cold air, rough seas, and high wind have meant death for mariners throughout the centuries.  Here the stark island, Cape Horn, grows nary a tree due to the high winds.  It is the last piece of land before the Antarctic polar cap.

Straights of Magellan

Not far North of Cape Horn is the passage way discovered by Ferdinand Magellan thru the maze of Islands at the tip of South America.  He never made it back to Spain as he died in battle in the Phillipines.  It is said that the wounded Magellan commanded his men to drop him in the surf so they could make it back to their ship without extra burden.  The straights are a majestic wonderland of glaciers, blue waters, narrow passageways and late night summer sun.
